- ➤ WXII has detailed free Halloween events across the Piedmont Triad with fun activities such as a downtown Graham pumpkin bash on Oct. 24, trick-or-treat events in Alamance County on Oct. 30, film festivals in Greensboro, and ghost stories at the High Point Museum in Historical Park on Oct. 18. High Point residents can also enjoy Halloween Spooky Hoopla at High Point Athletic Complex on Oct. 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.—other events include festivals, costume walks and family gatherings throughout the month. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ New import tariffs on furniture and lumber will take effect Tuesday, Oct. 14 and may push prices higher for local buyers as businesses work to keep costs down. The tariffs impose a 10% tax on softwood lumber and a 25% tax on upholstered furniture that will rise to 30% next year—raising concerns for manufacturers and retailers. WFMY News 2

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal employees in North Carolina who are not receiving pay during the government shutdown can now apply for unemployment benefits through DES by creating a MyNCUIBenefits account and using ID.me to verify their identity—application details are available online.
