  • WFMY News 2 will host its Shred-A-Thon on October 7—community members can take part in safely shredding unwanted items at the event.  WFMY News 2
  • Town officials cut the ribbon at Jamestown Park on Sept. 26 to open a new inclusive playground that serves all children—those with special needs and those without. The area also features a nature trail and basketball court as part of a Parks & Recreation Trust Fund project to upgrade local recreation.  YES! Weekly

  • Kristin Harmel, who began her professional writing career at 16, spoke at the fall luncheon on Sept. 17 at High Point Country Club where the High Point Literary Club—founded in 1981 as High Point Town Meeting—continues its mission to promote literacy while she explained how her detailed research helps shape her novels.  YES! EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Furnitureland Rotary Club named fifth-grade students as Students of the Month at Fairview Elementary School and these winners will be eligible to be one of 12 selected for next spring's Shirlee Carda award—recognizing local academic effort.  The High Point Enterprise

  • The government shutdown has delayed paychecks and left many federal workers unpaid while experts say essential services like Social Security and the DMV remain open for now—active-duty military and nonessential employees risk job cuts if it continues.  WFMY News 2
