- ➤ A High Point auto dealer completed a five-year expansion—renovating its campus on the 2400 block of N. Main Street—with plans that had spanned many years. The High Point Enterprise
- ➤ Whataburger will open a new restaurant on Harvey Street in Winston-Salem on Monday, Oct. 6—one of six new Triad locations planned with one branch already open in Greensboro and a planned early fall outlet in High Point. WXII 12
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tropical Storm Imelda is moving north and is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to North Carolina beaches and the Piedmont Triad today and into Tuesday—forecasts say it may strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by Tuesday morning. National Hurricane Center officials note that rising swells and rip currents are a threat while Humberto may steer Imelda further east away from inland areas. WXII 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than two dozen new laws will take effect in North Carolina on October 1, including changes to motor vehicle license renewals, tougher protections for domestic violence victims and children, new pharmacy pricing rules, and updated benefits for military families — Gov. Josh Stein said the measures aim to improve state policies for better community support. These bills will alter how licenses are processed and how health care and legal protections are administered, affecting many citizens across the state. WXII 12
- ➤ Despite a possible government shutdown, Wednesday's Triad Honor Flight will carry 100 local veterans from Greensboro to Washington—where officials worry that locked bathrooms at Arlington could disrupt the visit. The flight costs about $115,000 per trip but is free to the veterans, and it is the final honor flight of the year with plans already underway for more in 2026. WXII 12
- ➤ Governor Josh Stein declared a state of emergency on Sept. 27 due to heavy rainfall expected from Tropical Storm Imelda while emergency crews and rescue teams were put on alert (the storm is forecast to remain offshore with minimal impact). ABC45
