COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers warned that scam calls are rising as criminals use fake numbers and voices to trick residents; his office will start a free four-week senior academy on September 25th at Harmony Senior Services—teaching seniors ways to avoid fraud.  ABC45

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A local church is supporting Konnoak Middle by delivering lunch to teachers and volunteering—efforts aimed at easing the ongoing budget crisis at the school.  WFMY News 2
  • At the county's State of Education event, WS/FCS Interim Superintendent Catty Moore said Wednesday there are no planned personnel cuts at this time.  WFMY News 2
  • Triad school districts are planning to close and consolidate schools due to declining enrollment and aging facilities. In Winston-Salem, Cook Elementary may close with families notified in November and the school set to close in August—while Guilford and Rockingham districts are also scheduling future consolidations and closures.  ABC45

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A recent NCDOT report shows DMV wait times across the Triad average about 2 hours 45 minutes—Cary wait times reached over 5 hours while offices in Forsyth and Guilford counties reported much shorter delays. Customers are advised to arrive early for walk-in services as extended wait times continue statewide.  WXII 12
