Crews placed the final beam on the new Sumner Elementary School in Guilford County on Wednesday afternoon, marking a key step in a rebuild that started in 2025 after the old building was demolished.
The school will have modern resources and will finish by next August.

Wildfire smoke from new fires in South Carolina and North Carolina may bring Code Yellow air quality conditions to parts of the Piedmont Triad today and into the weekend, warning residents with respiratory issues to limit outdoor activities (rain may clear smoke briefly).
