- ➤ At its Aug. 19 meeting, the Jamestown Rotary Club took a field trip to CityServe of the Triad and toured the new food distribution center before presenting a $516.25 check from its golf fundraiser—executive director Dawn Sanders said the center, housed in a former hardware store, distributed food and plans to host community classes. - ➤ First Baptist High Point marks its 200th anniversary as a congregation founded in Jamestown in 1825 when local members formed their own church to avoid a long trip to Davidson County, with Jamestown Mayor Lynn Montgomery reading a proclamation on Aug. 19. The congregation plans a bicentennial worship service with special music, history panels, and sermons on Sept. 7—while it continues its search for a new facility after selling its property to the City of High Point in 2023.
