Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 20th of July.
Good morning, High Point.
🏘️ Community
A local animal rescue group is looking for caring families for Butterscotch and Pecan, who need new homes.
The group hopes residents will adopt the pets soon — giving them a fresh start.
Guilford County's white population shrank nearly 2% since 2020 even as the total population climbed by 3.2%, with 5,000 fewer white residents and more gains seen in Black, Hispanic, Asian and multiracial groups.
Experts say younger white families are leaving—likely driven by better job opportunities in other regions.
🏛️ Government
High Point Mayor Cyril Jefferson — the city's youngest mayor — received a civil rights award recognizing his work to improve fairness, and he plans to use the honor to further boost civil rights efforts.
This award underscores his role in breaking new ground in local government.
