- ➤ During the final month at Pennybyrn Retirement Center, community events celebrated the last four Sisters—Sister Lucy Hennessy, Sister Mona Comaskey, Sister Loretta O’Connor and Sister Gabriella Hogan—who are set to return to Ireland after a collective 117 years of service. The celebrations included a choral tribute, tea party, ice cream social and final farewell on June 25 where local leaders honored their legacy with keys to the city and the unveiling of a heritage room. - ➤ Local farmers and businesses face higher costs as a 17% tariff on Mexican tomatoes took effect this week (they expect prices at local markets to rise soon). WFMY News 2

- ➤ Local farmers and experts report that persistent rainfall has saturated the clay soil across the Triad — causing crop leaves to yellow and raising fungal disease risks. - ➤ Guilford County Schools are scrambling over a federal funding freeze that will cut budgets for all 120 district schools—Superintendent Dr. Whitney Oakley said officials are working to adjust plans for the upcoming school year. WFMY News 2

- ➤ Deep River Riverkeeper, Inc. was formed in December 2024 to protect the Deep River and its tributaries and was licensed in June by the Water Keeper Alliance+ the group held a packed introductory meeting at the Jamestown Public Library on June 26 and plans fall cleanups along the river. - ➤ State officials said a High Point trailer park discharged wastewater into a creek for months—tests showed human waste levels at 12 times the legal limit and ammonia readings at 10 times the safe level. News & Record
