COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Northwest Piedmont Purple Heart Foundation is preparing to host its annual Purple Heart Dinner on Aug. 16 to honor over 150 Purple Heart recipients and Gold Star families, with NASCAR’s Childress providing a large Davidson County meeting room—volunteers are working to contact veterans and raise between $35,000 and $40,000 to cover event expenses. The committee faces challenges reaching out as they work to keep this tradition alive.  News & Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Carolina joined 24 other states in filing a lawsuit against federal officials for freezing $6.8 billion in education funding, a move that may cost the state $165 million and nearly 1,000 jobs. The suit claims withholding the congressionally allocated funds is illegal and warns that districts could face larger class sizes and service cuts — if the money remains unavailable.  ABC45

  • Slow-moving thunderstorms dropped heavy rain over the Piedmont Triad—forcing a Flood Watch on Tuesday for Wilkes, Yadkin, Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell and Patrick counties due to possible flash flooding. Flash Flood Warnings were issued in Guilford and Alamance counties—raising concerns over isolated flooding.  WXII 12
