CRIME NEWS

  • Benjamin Cole, 47, is free after his 1998 murder conviction was overturned—records from Duke Law’s Wrongful Convictions Clinic confirmed his alibi in Ohio and witnesses said his accent did not match that of the shooter who fatally shot Calvin Jenkins during a robbery; Cole accepted an Alford plea and embraced his mother as he left prison.  WXII 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Miss North Carolina Pageant has returned to the High Point Theatre with 75 young women competing for two titles—winners will move on to Miss America in September. The four-day event runs from June 25 to 28 with finals on Saturday—organizers expect about 3,000 attendees to boost local businesses.  WXII 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • High Point officials are gathering input at a public library open house to update a development plan that aligns with the 2025 comprehensive plan—aiming to improve local zoning, signage, parks, and sidewalks. Residents marked their feedback on maps to help guide changes that focus on creating accessible activity centers and preserving green spaces.  ABC45
