ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officials warn that as summer heat rises, parked cars can become 20 degrees hotter than outside temperatures—last week in Hamlet a 7-month-old died after being left in a hot car, so police advise drivers to leave a key item in the back seat and call 911 immediately if a child or pet is discovered alone.  WXII 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested a 25-year-old woman on Fairfax Road after she allegedly stabbed someone—police are still investigating the case.  WFMY News 2
  • Officers responded at 12:30 a.m. on June 10 to a shooting on Terrell Drive in High Point where two people were injured—one victim later died.  WFMY News 2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A state broadband access program will serve an extra 3,292 homes and businesses in the Triad by requiring participating companies to offer high-speed internet that meets or exceeds speeds of 100 Mbps download — 100 Mbps upload.  News & Record
  • Local non-profits in the Triad say a federal budget package under Senate review would cut SNAP by $300 billion and shift up to $700 million in costs to local governments, leaving families with fewer meals. Leaders warn that ending SNAP-Ed and reducing benefits could force food banks to supply millions more meals—adding strain to community aid.  ABC45
