- ➤ On June 4 at 11:45 p.m., officers responded to a home invasion on Ennis Street after a man broke in and assaulted a woman; when a pit bull charged toward an officer, the officer fired and fatally shot the dog—Anthony Brown now faces multiple charges. WXII 12

- ➤ This week, the Triad offers several events—today, the TowneBank Beach Music Festival at First National Bank Field with Eric & The Chill Tones kicks off a busy calendar that includes a concert by the High Point Arts Council and a free movie screening on June 13, a Pride festival and karaoke on June 14, a MUSEP concert on June 15, and band and Sunset Series concerts on June 17. - ➤ The Guilford board voted to close four elementary schools — Washington, Vandalia, Madison and Southern — as budget issues forced tough choices. A Southern parent said, 'It is a shame that money trumps what is best for our children in our society,' showing local concern about the decision. News & Record
- ➤ Three seniors from Ragsdale High School were honored with the Lane Pleasants Memorial Scholarship during the June 8 Senior Day worship service at Jamestown Presbyterian Church, a program that has awarded $76,500 to 39 students over 26 years. Caroline van Thillo, Madison Salthouse & Owen Robinson were recognized for their strong academics, church service and leadership skills. YES! Weekly
- ➤ Michael Holder became the new athletic director at Ragsdale High School on June 1 after Deborah Jones ended her tenure on May 31 — he plans to improve sports facilities and better connect the Jamestown community to the school. - ➤ Piedmont Triad International Airport will make a major economic development announcement today at 1 p.m. as local government officials hold separate meetings on incentive packages. The Guilford County Board of Commissioners will review a proposal (worth over $75 million) for an unnamed manufacturing company while the Greensboro City Council meets at 11 a.m. to discuss related projects (to be paid over 20 years).
