CRIME NEWS

  • Brandon Lamont Bates, a 33-year-old from Guilford County, was federally indicted and is held without bond in Greensboro after a March 13 search found 385 grams of cocaine, 353 grams of fentanyl + two guns, and he now faces state and federal charges for drug trafficking and firearm possession.  WXII 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic Jamestown Society will host Fiber Arts Day on June 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mendenhall Homeplace, where the event will be held mostly outside—local artisans in period costumes will demonstrate fiber crafts and sell handmade items while donations support historic preservation.  YES! EDUCATION NEWS

  • Guilford County Schools has named nine new principals for six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school for the 2025-26 school year. The appointments come from within the district as several candidates served as assistant or interim principals before earning the role.  News & Record

  • Larry Ogunjobi, a former standout at Ragsdale, will hold his fifth annual free youth football camp at Ragsdale on June 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—registration is limited to 100 campers aged 8 to 14 and coaches will teach fundamental skills, teamwork and sportsmanship.  YES! Weekly
  • Former Page High standout Jake Knapp was named a finalist for the College Baseball Foundation’s 2025 Pitcher of the Year Award—he currently holds a record of 13 to 0 with 85 strikeouts and a 1.98 ERA. He will pitch for UNC in the Super Regionals against Arizona on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium.  WFMY News 2
