ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • John and Andi Mohan are rebuilding after an electrical fire damaged their home on Rockspring Road on May 13. The fire began around 10:30 a.m.—no one was injured—and neighbors helped ensure their safe escape as they prepare to rebuild.  ABC45

CRIME NEWS

  • A fatal shooting of two Israeli Embassy staffers at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night has left the local Jewish community in Greensboro heartbroken—Rabbi Andy Koren of Temple Emanuel said the attack echoes past violence and raises fears for everyday safety.  WXII 12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The NC Department of Environmental Quality revealed that five local wastewater facilities — including one in High Point — recorded 1,4-dioxane levels far above the EPA’s recommended limit, with samples from Reidsville and Asheboro showing up to 2,000 times the set level. Officials said the discharged water flows into the Cape Fear River basin, which supplies drinking water to several communities, and they will continue to monitor its impact.  WXII 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State House budget writers plan to restore a three-day sales tax holiday on school supplies that would start at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday of August and end at 11:59 p.m. on the first Sunday of August next year if Senate budget writers support the measure—along with allocating $2.75 million to the High Point Market Authority and $1.5 million for Bowman Gray Stadium improvements from opioid settlement funds.  News & Record
  • Wildlife officers are urging boaters to use safe gear and follow rules ahead of a busy Memorial Day weekend on High Rock Lake. Master Wildlife Officer Ashley Griffin said officers will check that lifejackets fit well and warn that boating while impaired is dangerous — a measure to keep everyone safe on the water.  WXII 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • During Mental Health Awareness Month, Trillium Health gave NAMI a $150,000 grant to grow mental health services in Guilford County—helping families and individuals in crisis. County officials said that one in five residents may need help and the grant will support groups, education, and family resources.  ABC45
