  • Guilford County Animal Shelter is hosting a pet supply drive this week to honor Ed Matthews during his final week at the shelter; residents are encouraged to donate needed supplies.  WFMY News 2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire at Jamestown Park on Tuesday damaged Shelter 1 and part of the new playground, prompting city officials to close these areas while assessing the damage and planning to reopen them soon (no injuries were reported).  WXII 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A recent Lending Tree study (81.9% more interest on longer auto loans) shows that Americans face rising auto loan costs. High Point residents looking to finance a car may want to review their options amid changing rates.  WFMY News 2

HEALTH NEWS

  • State environmental officials in High Point warn families to avoid scummy water as summer recreation nears because discolored water may signal a harmful algal bloom that produces toxins. They advise keeping children & pets away from water that appears bright green, blue, or discolored.  WXII 12
  • High Point residents should note that more than 1,000 tick and mosquito-borne illness cases were reported statewide in 2025. Health officials advise checking for ticks and treating clothing with permethrin + following CDC guidelines to reduce risk while outdoors.  WXII 12
