- ➤ On May 2, residents at Pennybyrn Retirement Community attended a prom titled 'If Only for One Night' where many celebrated their first formal dance and families and staff helped with hair, makeup, and dressing up while volunteers decorated the Healthcare Center Town Square in gold and purple—Eric Walker and Marceen Aronson were crowned prom king and queen. Jennifer Ballance said the success of the event may lead to more proms in the future. YES! Weekly
- ➤ On May 12, four Troop #17 Scouts were honored at Jamestown United Methodist Church for earning their Eagle Awards — they completed projects that built shelving for a swim team office, installed bulletin boards at a library, constructed beds for children, and upgraded a disc golf course at a local school. - ➤ North Carolina senators filed a bill to remove the 52-year ban that stops supersonic jets from flying over land so that the FAA can set new rules for Boom Supersonic’s Overture — built at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro — which may cut travel time by 90 minutes if approved for passenger flights in 2029. The plan could let travelers reach their destinations faster and help keep America at the forefront of air travel technology. News & Record

- ➤ Guilford County Schools are discussing the consolidation of Vandalia, Southern, Washington and Madison elementary schools — a move that may lead to future closures. School officials will review the proposals before making a final decision. WFMY News 2
