CULTURE NEWS

  • Catholics at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in High Point feel hopeful after Pope Leo XIV—America’s first pope—was elected; several parishioners are planning a trip to Rome in June and shared their emotional reactions about his promise to bring unity and change to the Church.  WXII 12
  • High Point Ballet will hold a show next weekend — it will highlight the classic choreography of Bob Fosse and his wife Gwen Verdon. The performance will bring their famous style to the stage with new routines for a local audience.  The High Point Enterprise

  • Students at Jamestown Elementary are taking part in Read 2 Succeed, an award-winning literacy program that promotes reading in the Triad+ School officials say the program boosts students’ skills and will continue to support learning.  WFMY News 2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the National Weather Service and North Carolina Department of Public Safety are hosting National Hurricane Preparedness Week to remind residents to return home only when cleared and to stay away from flooded areas—like river banks—and from dangerous rip currents. Officials warn that hurricane hazards can last for days after a storm and say the active hurricane season will begin on June 1.  WXII 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, Triad High Schools compete in the NCHSAA Baseball and Softball Second Round Playoff Games as winners move closer to the State Championship Series—teams from various divisions face off in key matchups like South Iredell against Grimsley and Reagan versus West Forsyth.
