- ➤ After a freeze forced growers to cover the strawberry crops to protect them from the cold, Rudd Farms is officially open for business—marking the start of strawberry season. Local families will soon have access to fresh berries as the farm continues its production. WFMY News 2
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Krista Ann Lay, 39, pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of death by distribution of fentanyl and other drug-related offenses linked to Austin Guthrie’s overdose death on April 19th, 2022—she was sentenced to 60—84 months in prison. WXII 12
- ➤ A High Point man was sentenced to up to 50 years for child sex crimes—he faces additional charges and will return to Guilford County court next month, according to court records. News & Record
- ➤ Governor Josh Stein's office in High Point announced a $25,000 reward for information to help arrest suspects in the 2022 homicide of John Boone—a 49-year-old deaf and non-verbal man found at the corner of Lakewood Drive and Futrelle Drive—while police review surveillance footage and ask for tips. - ➤ Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist will open its new 55,000 square foot outpatient surgery center off Medical Center Boulevard in early May—expanding surgical services for the community. News & Record
- ➤ The American Lung Association’s State of the Air report released Wednesday found that 156 million Americans—25 million more than last year—live in areas with unhealthy levels of ozone and particle pollution.
