BUSINESS NEWS

  • On April 3, members of the Jamestown Business Association and guests took part in a business speed dating event at Kindred Coffee — participants paired off two-by-two to spark new connections and build potential client relationships, according to JBA President Victoria Jones. The next meeting is scheduled for May 1 at 6 p.m. at Simply Thai restaurant where food will be available for purchase and more networking opportunities are planned.  YES! Weekly

CRIME NEWS

  • A High Point officer saw a tow truck matching the stolen vehicle description around 9 p.m. on Saturday on North Main Street and later watched it turn into a parking lot on West Green Street—24-year-old Rachel Ricketts has been charged with multiple felonies after the truck was reported stolen from Raleigh.  WXII 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mary Faye Bodenheimer of Arts by Alexander spoke on April 3 at Jamestown Public Library during the First Thursday History Series to explain how custom framing techniques and acid-free mats preserve pictures and memorabilia (each item requiring a unique approach).  YES! Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Guilford County Schools unanimously approved its $947 million budget for the 2025-2026 school year that provides about $11 million for facility improvements, $3 million for school safety, $10 million for local teacher supplements and $15 million to raise the pay scale for classified staff; more than $46 million will be diverted for local charter schools.  WXII 12
  • School officials at Guilford County Schools asked for $314 million in county funding for next year when the board of education approved a budget proposal that calls for nearly $44 million to raise pay for teachers and classified staff—protesters had urged the board to secure fair wages amid staffing shortages. The proposal will be submitted to the county commissioners by May 13.  News & Record

  • All North Carolina taxpayers can file federal and state taxes until May 1 due to an extension after Hurricane Helene, but experts urge filing by April 15 to avoid errors and penalties—verified by the IRS and NC Department of Revenue.  WFMY News 2

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • City leaders and community partners celebrated today the grand opening of Legacy Ridge, a $40 million affordable housing project built on the former Daniel Brooks Homes site in southeast High Point that offers 100 new apartment units with one, two and three bedrooms. The development is fully leased and features a community clubhouse, fitness center, computer lab and outdoor green space, with 28 units providing rental assistance (for families earning 60% or less of the area's median income).  ABC45
