Good morning, High Point.

Triad Vietnam veterans received commemorative pins from Congresswoman Virginia Foxx in Reidsville last Friday in a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.

Tony Hill, who served at 18, and infantry veteran Tim Hinkle recalled the return-home challenges — a moment that reflected a change in community sentiment toward Vietnam veterans.

High Point Police reported a record low homicide rate with only three homicides in 2024—a 77% drop from two years ago—and no incidents in March, with Police Chief Curtis Cheeks III crediting consistent crime-fighting strategies and community programs for the decline.

Guilford County educators hosted a week-long initiative—inviting lawmakers to classrooms to hear concerns over low pay and teacher turnover, after 9% of teachers left last school year.

Superintendent Whitney Oakley said the district will ask legislators to raise base pay for teachers and classified staff.

WFMY News 2 visited High Point and practiced reading and comprehension skills with Triad students at Oak View Elementary to boost local literacy.
