COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Keep America Beautiful groups in High Point, Winston-Salem and Greensboro will host the Greatest American Cleanup on Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at parks, streets and waterways across the Triad—volunteers of all ages are invited to join the free event to clear litter before America’s 250th birthday. All cleaning supplies will be provided at no cost.  WXII 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Michelin Guide announced it will review restaurants in North Carolina and across the South for the first time—local owner Tal Blevins of MACHETE and Yokai in Greensboro said the honor could attract food tourists and boost our food scene if restaurants keep providing great service.  WXII 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Commission selected 530 teaching fellows for the 2025—26 academic year, including eight from High Point. This marks the highest number of fellows chosen from our area.  The High Point Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senate President Phil Berger told WXII 12 News that the legislature is working to help western North Carolina recover from Helene and will vote on its budget before Easter. He said he works well with Gov. Stein—though he does not expect full legalization of recreational marijuana—while supporting a law to let people carry guns without a permit and facing a 2026 primary challenge from Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page.  WXII 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Guilford County public health officials urged parents to update their children’s measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations as national measles cases increase, even though no cases have been reported in NC this year. Walk-in clinics for kindergarten-12th grade students will be held in Greensboro at 1100 E. Wendover Avenue and in High Point at 501 E. Green Drive from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 8, April 10, April 14, April 15, April 16, April 17, April 29, April 30 and May 1.  WXII 12
