  • During National Child Abuse Prevention Month, local advocates urge every adult to report suspected abuse as required by state law and to watch for signs like bruises or changes in behavior. Brandi Reagan—executive director of The Dragonfly House in Mocksville—stressed that prevention should take place year-round and encouraged the community to wear blue on April 4.  WXII 12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The North Carolina Forest Service will lift the burn ban today at 8 a.m. after recent rains eased the hazardous conditions that led to restrictions on March 21 (wildfires still burn in several areas including three in Polk County), and officials remind residents to burn safely during spring wildfire season.  WXII 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cone Health has installed weapons detectors following an increase in hospital violence and assaults on nurses—experts say the new measure is intended to protect staff and patients. The installation is part of an ongoing effort to improve safety at the facility.  WFMY News 2
