CRIME NEWS

  • Police said that on Devondale Court around 9:15 a.m. Thursday a 62-year-old man was critically injured when suspect Connor Johnson—allegedly his son—swung a samurai sword at him, and he was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.  WFMY News 2

CULTURE NEWS

  • The RiverRun International Film Festival will run from April 11 to 19 and will show 175 films from 33 countries. Visitors can see many movies from around the world and learn about different cultures.  WFMY News 2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers have introduced House Bill 394 to fine drivers 100 dollars for holding pets in their laps while driving; the measure also bans distractions from children and animals. Data from 2017 to 2022 links distracted driving to almost 50,000 crashes, and the House Transportation Committee unanimously advanced the bill, which will become law in December if approved by the full legislature.  WXII 12
