CRIME NEWS

  • High Point Police responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon on Devondale Court around 9:15 a.m.—they found a 62-year-old man with heavy sword cuts in critical condition after Guilford County EMS took him to a nearby hospital, and suspect Connor J. Johnson was arrested and is held without bond.  ABC45

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Third and fifth grade students at Florence Elementary in High Point competed in a bracket-style multiplication tournament today to hone their math skills—classmates cheered while cheerleaders from High Point University supported the event.  WXII 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state Senate passed SB316 on March 27th by a 44-2 vote to require hospitals to show clear pricing and give written notice of extra charges while setting limits on facility fees. The bill now awaits a House vote and aims to lower healthcare costs for patients—key steps to help them manage medical bills.  News & Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hundreds of residents gathered today at Williams Memorial CME Church in High Point for free dental care provided by the North Carolina Dental Society Foundation’s Missions of Mercy clinic, where patients received cleanings, fillings, and extractions. The clinic will continue tomorrow and organizers advise early arrival at 6 a.m.—with over 1,000 volunteers helping to deliver over $500,000 in services.  ABC45
