CRIME NEWS

  • A 20-year-old from High Point was arrested yesterday after she allegedly fired a gun at a house on Rosetta Road on January 31 when a woman was inside—she faces charges for discharging a weapon into an occupied home, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and discharging a firearm in city limits while being held without bond.  WXII 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Duke Energy is investing $600,000 in community colleges across N.C. today, including a $25,000 grant to Rockingham Community College that will support middle and high school teachers in a mechatronics program. Dean David Dillard said the funding will help students gain hands-on training in automation and robotics — key skills seen in everyday technology.  WFMY News 2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologists say a storm is developing over the Midwest and that rain chances in the Triad will begin to rise on Sunday—forecasts show strong storms with damaging winds and possible tornadoes moving through on Monday. Forecast details may change as experts update timing and intensity in the coming days.  WXII 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Pro-Tem Marikay Abuzuaiter announced on Wednesday that she intends to run for mayor.  WFMY News 2
  • WXII 12 will start an investigation this week of more than 1,200 bridges in the Piedmont Triad—DOT engineers say while most bridges are safe, 70 have issues that need repair because they do not meet today's standards.  WXII 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • March is Endometriosis Awareness Month and Dr. Eboni Ogunbekun from Novant Health Women’s Care in Kernersville says endometriosis happens when tissue grows outside the uterus—causing pelvic pain and sometimes making it hard to have a baby if left untreated. She urges patients to speak with their doctor early to get the right treatment and help prevent more serious health issues.  WXII 12
