COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The High Point University president's family is donating a seven-figure gift to the YMCA to build a new family center at The Hartley Drive in High Point. The planned donation will support local community growth.  The High Point Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • Randolph Health will lift visitor restrictions for children 12 and under today (restrictions in place since Dec. 30) after a statewide flu surge; officials urge anyone with flu-like symptoms to wear a mask when visiting patients.  WXII 12
  • Vanessa Gomez, a Triad mom at 40, was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer after noticing blood on Labor Day — she had a colonoscopy on Oct. 16 with surgery and chemo at Novant Health's Cancer Institute. Doctors say early detection is key as younger patients face risk.  WXII 12
  • Novant Health, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and Cone Health will lift visitor restrictions today at 7 a.m. as flu cases drop, allowing children under 13 (12 at Cone Health) to visit; visitors with symptoms must still follow safety measures.  ABC45
  • Officials said High Point Medical Center will no longer require visitors to wear masks after local respiratory illness cases declined. The policy change takes effect immediately.  The High Point Enterprise

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Residents in Guilford County received new property assessments with increases up to ($180k), sparking concerns; Tax Director Ben Chavis said a 25-member team completed the early revaluations due to lower sale prices, and homeowners have until May 15 to file appeals.  WXII 12
