COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mail and trash pickup services in Triad cities have been paused today due to a winter storm — local officials reported dangerous road conditions in Randolph County.  WFMY News 2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Recent winter storms have left some Triad residents stuck as WFMY News 2's Kevin Kennedy reported that a woman fractured her back trying to leave her home and another person has remained indoors for 11 days.  WFMY News 2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two public events (a prayer vigil and an arts performance) are planned this month in High Point to mark the anniversary of the Feb. 11, 1960 Woolworth sit-in.  The High Point Enterprise
  • Al Oliveri, who has visited a theater on the first day of every month for nearly 30 years, maintained his moviegoing streak by watching Mercy in a private showing arranged by Zack Fox on Feb. 1 despite an 11-inch snowstorm; Marketplace Cinemas will reopen on Feb. 5.  WXII 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Triad school districts are adjusting schedules after hazardous winter weather. Davidson County Schools will extend days by 30 minutes starting Feb. 16 — while Wilkes County Schools updated its academic calendar to make up for lost instruction.  WFMY News 2
  • Guilford County Schools is checking school conditions after recent winter storms and will resume in-person classes once inspections confirm safety. Officials are monitoring the situation to determine when students can return.  WFMY News 2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After back-to-back winter storms, USPS continues to see delays on some mail routes in our area. Residents are urged to clear snow and ice from their mail areas & check for service updates as post offices resume operations.  WXII 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials in Guilford County said a skunk on NC 61 South in Whitsett tested positive for rabies on Friday—residents must vaccinate pets aged four months and older and supervise outdoor animals to prevent exposure.  WXII 12
  • Kelly Gebhardt (Happy Tails Veterinary Emergency Clinic) shares cold weather safety tips for pet owners to keep pets safe when playing outdoors.  WFMY News 2
